HP Printer Won't Turn On? Here's How to Fix It
If your HP printer isn't powering on at all, here are the steps to diagnose and fix the problem.
Step 1 — Check the power connection:
Make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into both the printer and the wall outlet
Try a different wall outlet — the current one may be faulty
Avoid using power strips or extension cords — plug directly into the wall
Step 2 — Perform a power reset:
If the printer is on but unresponsive, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds
Unplug the power cord from the printer
Wait 60 seconds
Plug the power cord back in and press the power button
Step 3 — Check the power cord:
Inspect the power cord for damage — fraying, cuts, or bent pins
If damaged, replace the power cord (use only an HP-approved cord for your model)
Step 4 — Check for error lights:
Some HP printers show a blinking light instead of powering on fully when there's an internal error
Note the light pattern and check the HP support page for your model's light code guide
Step 5 — Hard reset the printer:
With the printer off, unplug the power cord
Wait 2 minutes
Hold the power button on the printer for 15 seconds (while unplugged)
Release the button, plug in, and power on
