How to Print Without WiFi Using HP Wireless Direct
HP Wireless Direct lets you print from your phone or laptop directly to your HP printer — without needing a WiFi router or network connection. Here's how.
What is HP Wireless Direct?
HP Wireless Direct creates a mini WiFi hotspot directly on your HP printer. You connect your device to the printer's hotspot and print — no router needed.
How to enable HP Wireless Direct:
On your HP printer's control panel, go to Settings → Wireless → Wireless Direct
Turn Wireless Direct On
Note the Wireless Direct name (SSID) and password shown on the screen
How to connect and print:
On your phone or laptop, go to WiFi settings
Find the HP Wireless Direct network (e.g. "DIRECT-xx-HP OfficeJet Pro")
Enter the password shown on your printer's screen
Open your document and print — select your HP printer from the printer list
Important notes:
When connected to Wireless Direct, your device loses access to the internet — it's connected to the printer, not your router
HP Wireless Direct supports up to 5 devices at once on most models
Print speed may be slightly slower than regular WiFi printing
Use cases:
Printing at a location with no WiFi
Printing from a guest device without giving out your WiFi password
Printing when your router is down
