HP Printer Print Quality Problems — How to Fix Them
If your HP printer is producing streaky, faded, blurry, or uneven prints, here's how to fix it.
Common HP print quality problems:
Horizontal streaks across the page
Faded or light output
Missing colors
Blurry or smeared text
Uneven ink coverage
Step 1 — Check ink or toner levels:
Open HP Smart or the HP printer software and check ink levels. Replace any cartridge that is low or empty.
Step 2 — Clean the printhead:
Go to HP Printer Assistant → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead
Run the cleaning cycle 2–3 times
Print a test page after each cycle to check improvement
Step 3 — Run a Print Quality Diagnostic:
On your HP printer: Settings → Reports → Print Quality Diagnostic Page
This page shows which nozzles are clogged or misfiring
Step 4 — Align the printhead:
HP Printer Assistant → Align Printhead
Alignment fixes blurry or offset text and images
Step 5 — Check paper type:
Use HP-recommended paper
Avoid damp, wrinkled, or low-quality paper — it causes smearing and poor ink adhesion
For HP LaserJet — streaks and faded output:
Rock the toner cartridge gently side to side to redistribute toner
Replace the toner if it's low
Clean the fuser rollers if smearing continues
