HP Printer Paper Jam — Quick Fix Guide

Getting a paper jam error on your HP printer? Here's how to clear it fast and get back to printing.

Common causes of HP printer paper jams:

  • Overfilled paper tray

  • Wrinkled, damp, or wrong paper type

  • Small torn pieces of paper left inside the printer

  • Worn paper feed rollers

How to clear the jam:

  1. Turn off the HP printer

  2. Open the front cover and remove any visible jammed paper

  3. Open the rear access door and check for paper there too

  4. Remove all paper from the tray, fan it, and reload neatly

  5. Turn the printer back on and try a test print

Preventing future jams:

  • Never overfill the input tray

  • Use plain white paper — 75–90 gsm

  • Fan paper before loading

  • Keep rollers clean by running the printer's cleaning cycle from settings
