How to Fix an HP Printer Paper Jam
A paper jam is one of the most frustrating HP printer problems — but it's usually quick to fix.
Steps to clear an HP printer paper jam:
Turn off your HP printer
Open all access doors — the front, rear, and top covers
Gently remove any jammed paper — pull slowly in the direction of paper travel, never force it
Check all paper paths including the rear access door and duplexer
Remove all paper from the input tray, fan the stack, and reload it neatly
Make sure the paper guides are snug against the paper — not too tight
Turn the printer back on
Tips to prevent paper jams:
Always use HP-recommended paper sizes and weights
Never overfill the paper tray
Fan the paper before loading to separate sheets
Keep the printer on a flat, stable surface
HP printer still showing paper jam? Sometimes a small piece of torn paper stays inside the printer and keeps triggering the jam error. Use a flashlight to look inside all paper paths and remove any remaining bits.
