HP OfficeJet Pro Printer Problems — How to Fix Them

The HP OfficeJet Pro series is designed for busy offices — but it can still run into issues. Here's how to troubleshoot the most common HP OfficeJet Pro problems.

Common HP OfficeJet Pro issues:

  • OfficeJet Pro offline or won't print

  • Scanner not detecting documents

  • Fax not sending or receiving

  • WiFi connection dropping

  • Ink cartridge errors

OfficeJet Pro offline:

  1. Restart the printer and your router

  2. On Windows: Devices and Printers → right-click OfficeJet Pro → Use Printer Online

  3. If still offline, remove and re-add the printer

OfficeJet Pro scanner not working:

  1. Open HP Smart → scan from app

  2. If not detected, reinstall the HP full feature software from support.hp.com

  3. Check that the USB or network connection is stable

OfficeJet Pro fax not working:

  1. Check the phone line is securely connected to the 1-LINE port on the back of the printer

  2. Run a Fax Test from the Setup menu

  3. Make sure 'Distinctive Ring' setting matches your phone line type

OfficeJet Pro ink error:

  1. Open the cartridge access door

  2. Remove and reinsert each cartridge firmly

  3. Clean the contacts and replace any damaged cartridges
