HP LaserJet Printer Problems — How to Fix Them

HP LaserJet printers are built for heavy-duty printing, but they can still run into issues. Here's how to troubleshoot the most common HP LaserJet problems.

Common HP LaserJet issues:

  • Paper jam inside the LaserJet

  • Faded or streaky print output

  • LaserJet showing offline

  • Toner cartridge not recognized

  • LaserJet won't print after a Windows update

Paper jams:

  1. Open all access doors and gently remove jammed paper — never pull forcefully

  2. Check the tray, rear door, and fuser area

  3. Reload paper correctly and close all doors

Faded print quality:

  1. Remove the toner cartridge and rock it gently side to side to redistribute toner

  2. Reinsert and print a test page

  3. If still faded, replace the toner cartridge

LaserJet offline:

  1. Restart the printer and computer

  2. Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers → right-click your LaserJet → set it back to online
