HP DeskJet Printer Problems — How to Fix Them

HP DeskJet printers are popular home and office printers, but they can run into common issues. Here's how to troubleshoot your HP DeskJet.

Common HP DeskJet problems:

  • HP DeskJet won't print

  • DeskJet not connecting to WiFi

  • DeskJet showing offline

  • Ink cartridge error on DeskJet

  • Poor print quality — streaks or blank pages

Won't print:

  1. Restart the DeskJet printer and your computer

  2. Cancel all stuck print jobs in the print queue

  3. Make sure the DeskJet is set as your default printer

WiFi connection issue:

  1. Press the Wireless button on your DeskJet

  2. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer menu

  3. Reconnect to your WiFi network

Cartridge error:

  1. Remove and reinsert the cartridge firmly

  2. Clean the cartridge contacts with a dry cloth

  3. Replace with a genuine HP cartridge if the error continues

Print quality issues:

  1. Run Clean Printhead from the HP DeskJet settings

  2. Print an alignment page

  3. Replace low or empty cartridges
